ABOUT

My portraits aim to capture the darker and hidden sides of my subjects, with inspiration drawn from explorations of identity, personal crisis and fragility of character. Centred on the triumvirate of impression/perception/reality; the drawings challenge how we perceive and are impressed upon by people, and emphasise the internal thoughts and troubles behind their outward appearance. The faces are constructed of a dense network of detailed yet abstract marks, highlighting visual imperfections and reflecting the covert and often complex plagued minds of my subjects.

Recent works have been inspired by films where narrative, character and musical score complement and enhance each other to eloquently capture the aforementioned themes.
